Crispy Chicken Fries

Golden, crunchy strips of seasoned chicken breast breaded with panko and fried until perfectly crispy.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut into fry-shaped strips about 1/4 inch thick)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for the first coating layer)
  • 2 pieces eggs (beaten well to bind the breadcrumbs)
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs (creates extra crispiness compared to regular breadcrumbs)
  • 2 cups oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil works best)
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • Optional toppings (honey mustard, ranch, barbecue sauce, or sriracha mayo for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Slice each chicken breast lengthwise into fry-shaped strips about 1/4 inch thick. In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Season each strip evenly with this spice mixture on all sides.
  2. Arrange three shallow bowls or plates in a line with all-purpose flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and panko breadcrumbs in the third.
  3. Working with one strip at a time, coat it thoroughly in flour, shaking off excess, then dip it into the beaten eggs until well coated, and finally roll it in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently so the coating adheres. Place each breaded strip on a clean plate.
  4. Pour oil into a deep skillet or Dutch oven to a depth of about 2 inches and heat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
  5. Carefully place the breaded strips into the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding the pan. Fry for 4 to 6 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius).
  6. Using tongs, transfer the fried chicken strips to a wire rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil and maintain crispiness. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
