Viral Lazy Dumplings

Savory ground chicken seasoned with ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil, served in tender steamed wrappers with an open-top design that requires zero folding skills.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground chicken (80/20 blend for juiciness)
  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped, white or yellow)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger (grated fresh ginger)
  • 3 pieces green onions (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce (adds depth and color)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 20 to 25 pieces dumpling wrappers (round wheat wrappers)
  • 4 tablespoon soy sauce (for dipping sauce)
  • 2 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 3 to 4 tablespoon chili oil (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable or canola oil)
  • 1/2 cup water (for steaming)
  • Optional toppings (green onions, chopped for garnish, sesame seeds, or extra chili oil)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the ground chicken, onion, ginger, green onions, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined and slightly sticky, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and chili oil. Set aside until ready to serve.
  3. Place a dumpling wrapper in your hand and add about 1 tablespoon of filling to the center. Gently pinch the wrapper around the filling, leaving the top open and creating a small cup shape.
  4. Continue with the remaining wrappers and filling until you have assembled all your dumplings, about 20 to 25 pieces.
  5. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a nonstick pan over low to medium heat. Arrange the dumplings in a single layer in the pan, spacing them slightly apart so they don't stick together.
  6. Pour about 1/2 cup water into the pan, cover with a lid, and steam for about 15 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and the wrappers are soft and translucent.
  7. Remove the lid and let any remaining water evaporate, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  8. Drizzle generously with the prepared sauce, then finish with extra chili oil and chopped green onions. Serve warm.
